Why iOS 27.1 Only Showed Up on iPhone Duo

Updated 7:00 AM ET, Nov. 3, 2026: iOS 27.2 is now available for all supported iPhones.

Quick answer: iOS 27.1 was never meant for your iPhone. Apple released it on Oct. 23, 2026 only for the new foldable iPhone Duo, which shipped with it. Every other iPhone went straight from iOS 27.0.x to iOS 27.2, released Oct. 26. If you see iOS 27.2 in Software Update, you’re not missing anything.

Why Apple made a Duo-only update

New iPhone models often need software that isn’t finished when the rest of the lineup gets its yearly update. The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable, with a new screen layout and hinge, so it needed its own build at launch. Apple shipped that as iOS 27.1, then folded those changes into iOS 27.2 for everyone a few days later.
