GTA 6 File Size: How Much Storage You Need on PS5 and Xbox
Updated 7:00 AM ET, Nov. 3, 2026: Rockstar has not published an official file size. Figures below come from store data.
Quick answer: GTA 6 is reported to need about 210 GB on PS5, based on PlayStation Store backend data spotted by the PlayStation Game Size account. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed it, and there’s no figure for Xbox yet. Plan for at least 250 GB free so a day-one patch fits too.

GTA 6 storage needs by console
| Console | Usable storage (approx.) | GTA 6 share at 210 GB |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 (original) | 667 GB | About a third |
| PS5 Slim / Pro | About 850 GB+ | About a quarter |
| Xbox Series X | About 800 GB | Size not yet reported |
| Xbox Series S (512 GB) | About 364 GB | Size not yet reported; may fill most of it |
Usable storage is less than the advertised size because the system software takes space.

How to free up space before Nov. 12
- Check what’s using space. PS5: Settings > Storage. Xbox: Settings > System > Storage devices.
- Delete games you’re not playing. Your saves stay in the cloud or on the console, and you can redownload later.
- Move older PS4 or Xbox One games to a USB drive. Both consoles let you play last-gen games from external USB storage.
- Add an M.2 SSD (PS5) or an expansion card (Xbox). GTA 6 is a current-gen game, so it must run from internal or expansion storage, not a regular USB drive.
Can I play GTA 6 from an external drive?
You can store it on a USB drive, but to play it on PS5 you need it on the internal SSD or an installed M.2 SSD. On Xbox Series X|S, it must be on internal storage or an official expansion card.
FAQ
Will GTA 6 be bigger after launch?
Probably. Big games often add a day-one patch and later updates. That’s why we suggest 250 GB free.
